Media Library Integration
How Picture Optimizer integrates with the WordPress Media Library.
Picture Optimizer adds processing controls directly into the WordPress Media Library — no separate interface needed.
Single Image Processing
In the Media Library list view, every image row gets two new action links:
- Process with Picture Optimizer — Opens the processing modal for that single image
- Export with Picture Optimizer — Opens the export-only modal (skip to compression settings)
In the Media Library grid view (attachment details), a Process button appears in the sidebar.
Bulk Processing
Select multiple images using the checkbox column in list view, then choose Process with Picture Optimizer from the Bulk Actions dropdown.
This opens the processing modal with all selected images queued for batch processing.
There is no hard limit on batch size, but very large batches (100+ images) may take several minutes. The modal shows real-time progress for each step.
Processing Modal
The modal provides a step-by-step workflow:
Step 1: Confirmation
- Choose your pipeline mode (Analyze & Export, Analyze Only, or Compress & Export Only)
- View your credit balance and how many credits this batch will use
- See which images are already processed and will be skipped
- Optionally toggle Re-process all to include already-processed images
Step 2: Upload
Images are uploaded to the Picture Optimizer cloud service and a processing session is created.
Step 3: Analyze (Full & Analyze Only modes)
AI analyzes each image and generates metadata. A real-time progress bar shows the current image being processed.
Step 4: Review (Full & Analyze Only modes)
Review and edit AI-generated metadata for each image:
- Title, alt text, caption, description
- Suggested filename
- SEO tags and keywords
Step 5: Export Settings (Full & Compress Only modes)
Configure compression and output settings:
- Format — WebP, AVIF, JPEG, PNG, or keep original
- Quality preset — Maximum, Very High, High, Medium, Low, Minimum
- Responsive variants — Enable/disable and configure breakpoints
Step 6: Sample Preview (Optional)
Preview up to 5 images with your chosen settings before committing. Samples are free — no credits are charged.
Step 7: Export & Replace
Images are compressed, converted, and downloaded back to WordPress. The plugin replaces the original attachment files and updates all references.
Processed Image Indicators
After processing, images display additional metadata in the Media Library:
- Picture Optimizer status — Shows "Processed" with the date
- View Metadata link — Opens a detailed view of AI-generated metadata, before/after comparison, and file size savings
- Revert option — One-click restoration to the original image
